Natures Powerhouse

Information:

Nature’s Powerhouse is an accredited Visitor Information Centre and bookings centre for accommodation and tours in the region located on Walker Street.

Also home to the Vera Scarth –Johnson Gallery and Charles Tanner Gallery and the heritage-listed Botanic Gardens.

Plus Vera’s Café and bookshop and souvenirs.

Book tours and accommodation and take scenic walks to nearby the beaches at Cherry Tree Bay and Finch Bay through the Botanic Gardens

ANZ and Westpac both have branches with ATMs in Charlotte Street.
There is also an ATM in the Caltex service station.

Post Office:

The post office is located on Charlotte Street opposite the Sovereign Hotel

Hospital:

The Hospital is located on the corner of Hope and Ida Streets.

The Medical Centre is located on the corner of Helen and Walker Streets.

The Pharmacy is located on Charlotte Street near the West Coast Hotel

Supermarket:

There is a well supplied IGA supermarket on the corner of Hogg and Helen Streets open from 08.00-18.00 every day except Thursday (08.00-19.00) and Sunday (08.00-17.00)

Meat and Vegetables:

Next to the Bargain Barn at 82 Charlotte street there is an excellent fresh fruit and vegetable shop as well as a well stocked butchers.

Souvenir Shop:

The Croc Shop at 115 Charlotte Street has a wide variety of Cooktown and Cape York souvenirs and books

Books and Maps:

Nature’s Powerhouse has a big selection of Cooktown and Cape York reference, history and flora and fauna themed books and maps. Maps can also be found at the service stations and the Top End Camping store.

Car hire is available at The Sovereign Resort Hotel and Milkwood Lodge

Fuel:

Mobil, Cooktown is located on Endeavour Valley Road open 7 days/week 06.00-20.00.

Caltex Cooktown Cnr Hope and Howard streets is open 7 days a week from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm and offers a full range of fuel, including Autogas. A complete range of groceries is also available for your convenience.

There is also a service station located on Charlotte/Furneaux streets next to the Auto Repairs.

Mechanical Repairs:

Cooktown Auto Repairs located on Furneaux Street undertakes all major and mechanical repairs and is an RACQ road service contractor. Alternatively there are several mechanical repair shops behind the Mobil service station along the Endeavour Valley Road.

Camping/Outdoors Equipment:

Top End Outdoors has a good selection of camping and outdoors equipment – located at 94 Charlotte Street.

The Lure Shop at 142 Charlotte Street is a one stop fishing supplies outlet with bait and tackle, ice, lures, rod and reel repairs and great local fishing advice.

Hardware Shop:

There is a well stocked hardware shop at 16 Howard Street and the Bargain Barn at 82 Charlotte Street also stocks hardware supplies.

Boat Ramps

Boat ramps can be found at The Annan River bridge, at Marton on the Endeavour River and at Cooktown wharf

Waste Disposal Point

There is a waste disposal point located in Anzac Park in Cooktown
