Fashionistas bring an international flavour to Cooktown
Last Saturday night’s Fashion Safari at Nature’s Powerhouse was an unqualified success. Powerhouse manager Mike Chatenay said he could have booked the dinner twice over.
“The community response was overwhelming,” Mr Chatenay said.
“It was a night where everything gelled. The models did a great job, and the whole crowd got into the spirit of the night, you could feel it in the air.
“I think everyone had a good time.”
The audience enjoyed a fashion show from Ambience and Mora Mora boutiques, wine made from locally grown fruits from Otto Hirsch from Hirsch Wines, food from the kitchen staff at the Powerhouse, music from Dan Hodgson, and entertainment from the SheeSha Fusion Belly Dancers, and an exhibition of African photography from Tess Buhmann.
The event followed hard on the heels of the Cooktown State School art exhibition “Art Kitchen”, another community event at the Powerhouse that was a huge event for locals.
“By and large, the Powerhouse belongs to the community, so we don’t always have to do things that are tourist-based,” Mr Chatenay said.
“We balance our activities out as best we can, and at this time of year it is good to do things for the locals.”
So will the Powerhouse look at doing another fashion parade?
“For sure!” Mr Chatenay said.
