The Grassy Hill Lookout Re-Development Project
Grassy Hill is a must-see destination in Cooktown with stunning views, particularly at sundown when the serpentine bends of the Endeavour River reflect the sunset.
The redevelopment project will afford an opportunity to improve access, enhance the amenity of the area and will incorporate public art and interpretive information for both tourists and residents.
Access will be improved with a general widening and sealing of the road and verges will be cleared for improved visibility with interpretive signage and rest stops along the route.
Improved parking will be added at the town lookout offset and at the base of the main summit-loop road.
The concept plan for the public art in the project includes commissioning a local artist to design the artwork for the disabled ramp access winding round the hill in the shape of Mungurru the serpent – a feature which will be clearly visible from the air.
