PDR to be sealed to Laura by Christmas
THE Peninsula Developmental Road is on track to be sealed all the way to Laura by Christmas, according to Member for Cook Jason O'Brien MP.
Mr O'Brien said that he had met with Main Roads last week to discuss ongoing
issues of the road, and was advised that weather permitting the road would be sealed
to Laura this year.
"This is great news for all communities on Cape York Peninsula who have seen
maintenance and upgrades occur in leaps and bounds in recent years", Mr O'Brien
said.
"As we've seen with Cooktown, sealing the road to Laura will open up all sorts of
economic opportunities. "It means tourists will no longer have to hire a 4WD to get there, thereby dramatically increasing the access, while lowering the costs".
"Laura has so much to offer tourists", added Mr O'Brien, "with outstanding
rock art and a beautiful environment. This achievement couldn't have come at a better time".
Mr O'Brien added that the completion of the new bridges over Ruth's and Carols
Crossings are imminent, and the bridge over the Laura River, which many doubted
would ever see fruition, is coming along at an astronomical rate.
