PCYC TAKES ON COOKTOWN EVENTS CENTRE MANAGEMENT
Cook Shire Council is pleased to announce that management of the Cooktown Events Centre is to be handed over to the Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association, otherwise known as PCYC, from Monday 19th December 2011. Sergeant Howard Pratt has been appointed as the Cooktown PCYC Manager and will be based full-time at the Events Centre.
Mayor Peter Scott said “We are really happy to be working with PCYC. They are a great, long-standing organisation and I am confident that Howard will fit right in with the Cooktown and Cook Shire community”.
Council would like to thank all staff members involved in the caretaker management phase of the Centre, the Cooktown State School P-12 for their patience and support during the past six months, and the community as a whole. “The community has shown outstanding support for events and activities already held at the Events Centre and I think the future looks bright as PCYC now take the reins” said Mayor Scott.
PCYCs facilitate and encourage participation in sporting, recreation, cultural and welfare programs with the aim of improving lives and the development of local communities throughout the state. Senior Sergeant Rob Fiedler, CEO of PCYC Queensland, commented “It’s great to have the opportunity to expand our services in Cooktown. There are lots of opportunities to engage with the youth and community in this area and we hope to deliver some excellent programs in the year ahead”.
An advisory committee will soon be established to give feedback and provide information about local needs. The official launch of the Cooktown PCYC will take place in 2012 with further information on opening times finalised in January.
From Monday 19th December, all Event Centre bookings and enquiries will be made through PCYC. All existing bookings and gym passes created through Council will be honoured.
