2011 DISCOVERY FESTIVAL IS SHAPING UP FOR SOME FUN!

Cooktown Discovery Festival

Not to be missed is the 51st Re-enactment of Cook’s arrival at the Endeavour River, the highlight of Sunday morning, with a Full Boar Fight Night the feature on Saturday night at the newly finished Cooktown Events Centre.

The historically-correct Re-enactment, complete with authentic costumes and artifacts and the aboriginal cast speaking in their local dialect, is the highlight of the Cooktown Discovery Festival which starts on Friday evening with free movies in the park.

There is a Grassy Hill Fun Run on Saturday morning, a grand parade led by the 1RAR Defence Force band who will be playing at various venues throughout the weekend. Everyone is invited to take part in the Saturday Fancy Dress Grand Parade through town. There are prizes for both costumes and floats.

Other highlights include a traditional Corroboree by firelight, fireworks, firelight performance by the Tipsy Gypsy’s, a campfire yarn with Willie Gordon, the Lions Club Billy Kart derby, markets and a Tropical Carnival for the kids.

With no entry charges and only a gold coin donation to some events, there will be over 50 markets stalls featuring food, fairy floss, jewellery, clothing, toys, artwork, games and arts and crafts by the local indigenous people, all weekend.

Come and join the fun for a weekend of entertainment and experiences in the beautiful town of Cooktown, the true birthplace of Australia. There’s something for everyone at the re-vamped Cooktown Discovery Festival which celebrates two cultures, one people.
