COOKTOWN - HOME OF THE COOKTOWN ORCHID
Queensland’s State flower emblem is the beautiful Cooktown orchid (Dendrobium Phalaenopsis) which is found around Cooktown and as far north as Iron Range, further up the Cape.
Found in great clusters in the wild, they are harder to find these days closer to civilisation as their beauty is sought far and wide. They appear in May at the start of the dry season and are a stunning pink to mauve colour.
