COOKTOWN – THE ULTIMATE SHORT-BREAK GETAWAY
With the ease of flying these days, Cooktown is somewhere one can just ‘drop into’ for a couple of days.
From Cairns it is an easy 45 minutes flight on Hinterland Aviation and you arrive at Cooktown’s quaint little airport. With a number of accommodation options, Cooktown is somewhere that’s easy to walk around – there is a great map that takes you on a walking trail of all the major sites including Grassy Hill, The James Cook Museum, The History Centre, The Botanic Gardens and Finch Bay, the pioneers Cemetery and the various lovely old buildings that give Cooktown its unique character.
After that you will want a beer or a cool drink to help you watch the sun go down over the Endeavour River before dining in one of our lovely restaurants and clubs. There is often something going on at the Pub or a club will have musicians performing – the perfect way to finish a lovely day in paradise.
