Cooktown is the venue for a lot of major adventure and sports events this school holidays. With the increase in extreme sporting events in FNQ as well as our own unique local events, Cooktown and the Shire will be welcoming hundreds of bike riders, bull-riders, pig hunters, fishermen and festival goers over the next couple of months.

COOKTOWN AND COOK SHIRE – THE SPORTING DESTINATION FOR THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Cardiac Challenge Bike ride

We have just welcomed Ben Southall from the Best Expedition in the World as he finished his epic 1600 km kayak from the town of 1770. Next week (23-25 Sept) we host the infamous Wallaby Creek Festival, celebrating its 10th year with amazing music and workshops in the magic of the Rossville rainforest.

Following immediately is the arrival of the Cardiac Challenge Bike riders (26 Sept),300 bike riders who will ride from Cairns to Cooktown in the name of Charity.

Then don’t miss the annual Cooktown Hog Hunt (7-9 Oct), the Lizard Island Black Marlin Fishing Classic (1-8 Oct) or the Paddy Bassini Bullride (1 Oct) for the local riders and horse sports fans.

Then if that’s not enough Cooktown will once again host the finish for the international Croc Trophy – the world’s most gruelling mountain bike race which covers 1,200 kilometres of heat, sand and dust. Starting on 18th Oct and running until 27th October this race will offer its international competitors numerous challenges in physical exertion.

If participating is not your thing, then join the rest of us and come and watch some of these unique events in the unspoilt beauty of Cooktown.
