Hinterland Aviation Media Release
Hinterland Aviation are pleased to announce that they will be taking over the air services between Cairns and Cooktown from Skytrans on 01 June 2010.
Hinterland is working very hard to ensure the 01 June 2010 transition from Skytrans is as seamless as possible for the travelling public by trying to ensure that any changes to the previous operations have been minimised. In fact the only real change is that the new Hinterland services will be departing from their comfortable, award winning lounge in the General Aviation precinct, which can found at:
General Aviation
Hangar 7, Tom McDonald Drive, Cairns
A map showing the location of the Hinterland terminal can be found at:

According to Managing Director Malcolm Chadwick, “Hinterland Aviation is focused on providing
an excellent long term service to the Cooktown community and believe we have the best aircraft
to service this route, with a local fleet of 5 Cessna Grand Caravans. On top of providing a safe,
reliable, clean and friendly service, passengers of Hinterland Aviation can also enjoy a free cup
of locally grown coffee from the 01 June 10 which is certainly not the case when you depart
from the Domestic terminal.“
Check-in closing times are 30 minutes prior to departure and the freight arrangements will
remain the same with Toll Priority managing the freight services between Cairns and Cooktown.
The Cooktown agent and ground handlers will remain in place so regular passengers will be
greeted by the same friendly faces.
Passengers holding existing bookings with Skytrans will be automatically transferred over to
one of the new Hinterland services. The baggage allowance will remain at 20kg (which
comprises 16kg for main baggage plus 4 kg hand luggage (one piece)).
Skytrans will continue to take reservations until 1500hrs on the 31 May 2010 with Hinterland taking bookings (by web and phone) from 1700hrs on the 31 May 2010.
