The annual Laura Rodeo and Races are held over the 3rd weekend in June, just 3 kilometres north of Laura township. This is an action-packed weekend with something for all the family to enjoy.
People travel from all over Cape York Peninsula to join in the fun and frivolity, together with friends and visitors from further south.
Talented jockeys vie for position on the outback track, testing their skills and pitting their steeds against each other. Ringers and stockmen compete with rodeo riders who travel great distances for a chance to take home some well-won prizes and trophies.
The days' entertainment flows well into the night with great music and dinner in the picturesque outback setting of the Laura Rodeo grounds.
Free camping facilities at the Rodeo grounds include hot water showers and shared amenties. Food and refreshments are available throughout the weekend.
The local hotel, roadhouse, general store and post office provide their services, and accommodation and camping are available at the roadhouse and hotel. Campgrounds are also located next to the Quinkan and Regional Cultural Centre.
